4 Ways To Prevent Hair Damage From Hot Yoga Classes

Hot yoga is the latest trend in fitness, with studios popping up all over the country. While it may sound enticing to get your sweat on, the practice comes with its own set of risks. If you’re heading to the studio, be sure to do your research before signing up. Here are four ways to prevent hair damage from hot yoga.

Yoga is great for your body and mind, but if you do it too often or at a high intensity level it can end up doing more damage than good. Here are some of the ways you can prevent the most common hair damage associated with hot yoga.

A lot of people do yoga. Even if you don’t, people in your life do yoga. You may not know that they do, but you know they do—because they do it all the time.

Mermaid long hair with frequent hot yoga sessions are seldom a good mix. Because of the heat, we sweat a lot, which means we have to wash our hair more often. Furthermore, the heat may make our hair very dry and frizzy. After completing a hot yoga training course that required my extremely long hair (12” below the shoulder) to attend two hot yoga sessions each day for a month in tropical humidity, here are some ways to keep your long locks looking great.

1.Use coconut oil that is extra virgin.

Coconut oil’s hydrating vitamin E and wonderful minerals make our hair velvety smooth. My favorite thing to do before class is to apply coconut oil to my hair a few hours ahead of time so it has time to absorb. It also maintains the bun/pony tail smooth and tidy by preventing baby hairs from frizzing excessively. Be cautious not to overdo it, otherwise the whole hot yoga class will smell like coconut cake!

2. Never comb damp hair.

Hair is more weaker when wet, making it much simpler to break or damage it. To avoid super knots, try combing your hair with your fingers while applying conditioner. After you’ve washed your hair, towel dry it and run your fingers through it with some (coconut oil or your preferred leave-in conditioner).

3. Avoid using hot tools.

Your hair has received enough heat if you go to a hot yoga session a few times a week. To get beach babe waves, try using all natural hairstyles like steam rollers (which are less harmful) or putting your hair in a bun for a couple of hours. If you really must use hot tools, apply a heat protectant spray first!

4. Sleep with your hair pulled back into a bun.

Our hair suffers from the constant tossing and turning we perform while sleeping. Keeping our hair in a bun keeps it in place for even the most daring fantasies! An added bonus: sleeping with your hair in a bun gives it a natural wave in the morning.

Hot yoga classes are great for getting your sweat on, but they can also cause unwanted hair damage. The kind of heat yoga uses can cause short-term hair damage, including hair loss. Here are four ways to prevent these problems.
