We’re so excited to be counting down the days to 50! So, in the spirit of celebrating ‘Auntie Michelle’s’ 50th birthday today, we’ll be looking back on the first lady’s inspiring campaign for healthy lifestyles.
We are less than a month away from President Barack Obama’s 50th birthday and the soon to be First Lady is making it a point to make sure she stays fit and healthy. The former Harvard Law student and senior White House advisor is taking up regular yoga classes and experts say the move will boost her health, fitness and overall well-being.
Many people admire Michelle Obama’s bicep curls, but as she approaches 50, the FLOTUS, or first lady Michelle Obama, is switching to yoga. Mrs. Obama explained why she’s switching from weight lifting and cardio to yoga in an interview with People magazine:
“I’m seeing myself move away from weight-bearing exercises, which are still essential, and hard cardio and running, and toward things like yoga, which will keep me flexible.”
The first lady seems to be focused on maintaining her health and physique in her 60s and 70s, a time when many women experience bone fracture. Yoga is a means for Mrs. Obama to maintain her flexibility and balance, “so that I don’t fall and break a hip one day.”
The first lady is well-known for her commitment to health and fitness. She heads the “Let’s Move” initiative, which aims to decrease child obesity in the United States by promoting good food and physical exercise.
